Lady Blues shutout Mustangs to improve to 2-0

MARSHALL, Minn. - The Washburn Lady Blues wrapped up a successful road trip to open the season with a 2-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State. The Lady Blues won their opener yesterday over Minnesota-Duluth 3-1. Washburn will be in action on Friday, Sept. 1 against South Dakota at the Central Missouri State University Tournament.
Senior midfielder Lauren Schwindt scored her first goal of the season off of a Jessica Mainz assist in the 31st minute mark of the match to give the Lady Blues a 1-0 lead.
In the 55th minute, Mainz scored her second goal of the season on a corner kick assist by senior Jolene Silovsky to push the Washburn lead to 2-0. That is all Washburn goalie senior Jenna Hatlestad would need as she picked up her 10th shutout of her Lady Blues career picking up five saves in the win.
