Lady Blues open with 3-1 win over Minnesota-Duluth

MARSHALL, Minn. - The Washburn Lady Blues kept their streak of opening wins alive with a 3-1 win over Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Blues are 4-0 in openers in school history.
The Lady Blues (1-0) jumped on the board first as sophomore Jessica Mainz scored on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute of the match. Washburn needed only 1:57 to score their second goal as senior forward Jolene Silovsky scored on a pass from freshman Keeley Lambeth. Minnesota-Duluth (1-1) scored :57 seconds later to cut the Washburn lead to 2-1.
Silovsky scored her second goal of the match unassisted in the 56th minute to close out the scoring for both teams.
Senior goalkeeper Jenna Hatlestad picked up the win in between the pipes for the Lady Blues picking up one save.
Washburn will be back in action tomorrow against Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m. before returning home.
