Lady Blues announce 2007 soccer signing class

TOPEKA, Kan. – The 2006 MIAA Champion Washburn Lady Blues announced their 2007 signing class which includes seven high school additions and one transfer from an NCAA Division I school. The Lady Blues finished the 2006 season with a 15-1-6 overall record, winning the school’s first MIAA Championship while making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the program’s fourth-year of competition.
“With losing 10 seniors, we knew we had to go out and recruit student athletes who could make an immediate impact as we believe we have done that,” head coach Tim Collins said. “We’re excited about the new additions and we can’t wait until the season starts again.”

High School Signees
Kendra Fritz – 5-11 • Defender/Midfielder • Lee’s Summit, Mo./Lee’s Summit West High School
Background: A first team all-state selection in 2005 and 2006 … part of Class 1 Missouri State Champions in 2005 and 2006 … a first team all-district pick in 2005 … a first team all-league pick in 2005 and 2006 … named first team all-Kansas City Class 1 in 2005 … named team’s defensive player of the year in 2006 … a member of the National Honor Society.
Personal: Born April 21, 1989 … daughter of David and Julienne Fritz … anticipated major is business and history.

Markie Gallagher – 5-7 • Midfielder • Platte City, Mo./Platte County High School
Background: A four-year starter who earned all-league honors her freshman, sophomore, junior seasons … all-district selection her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons … all-state pick her sophomore and junior seasons … named team’s most valuable player as a sophomore, junior seasons and co-captain as a junior as well … won team hustle award as a sophomore and junior … was also a two-year starter and all-league pick on the volleyball team and two-year starter on the basketball team … will finish high school with nine varsity letters … a member of the National Honor Society.
Personal: Born May 19, 1989 … daughter of Joe and Cindy Gallagher … undecided on major.

Ashley Hynek – 5-4 • Defender/Midfielder • Olathe, Kan./Olathe South High School
Background: A three-year varsity letterwinner and part of the 2006 6A State Champions … named Olathe South’s Most Improved Player in 2006 … part of the Kansas State Cup Soccer Champs (KC Metro Dynamos) in 2006 that was ranked in the top 20 nationally.
Personal: Born Jan. 12, 1989 … daughter of Dan and Sandra Hynek … undecided on major.

Ashley Klone – 5-8 • Goalkeeper • Casper, Wyo./Kelly Walsh High School
Background: Named all-league, all-region and all-sate as a sophomore and junior … named Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior … team captain as a sophomore and junior … a four-year letter winner for soccer and four-year starter … also a three-year letterwinner in basketball … a member of the National Honor Society.

Jordan Shefte – 5-8 • Defender • Omaha, Neb./Millard West High School
Background: Named first team all-metro as a senior and second team all-state as a senior … named honorable mention all-state as a sophomore and junior … a Wendy’s High School Heisman Nominee … started all four seasons on varsity and named an academic All-American as a senior … her club team (Toro Magic) was the state cup champions in 2002, 2005 and 2006 … a member of the National Honor Society.

Danielle Sicard – 5-7 • Defender • Topeka, Kan./Topeka High School
Background: Named all-region, all-city, all-league and second team all-state in 2004 … in 2005, was named all-city all-region, second team all-Centennial League … in 2006, earned all-city, all-Centennial League, all-region and all-state honors … an academic honor roll member.

Brittany Tracz – 5-2 • Midfielder • Olathe, Kan./Olathe North High School
Background: Has started all three seasons on varsity and was named team’s offensive player of the year in 2006 … named Eagles’ most improved player in 2005 … named first team all-Sunflower league in 2005 and 2006 … a first team all-Sun County selection in 2006 and a second team all-state pick in 2006 … played on the 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004 Kansas State Cup finals team … earned honorable mention all-metro honors in cross country.
