EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues were swept in Emporia by the No. 3 ranked Lady Hornets 1-0 and 8-0 in an MIAA doubleheader. With the loss, Washburn falls to 24-12 overall and 9-3 in the MIAA. The Lady Blues were ranked the No. 3 team in the North Central Regional Rankings that were announced today, Emporia State was the No. 1 ranked squad.
In the first game, the Lady Hornets needed extra innings to dispatch the Lady Blues as Megan Davison's RBI single scored Chelsea McClernon for the win. The Lady Blues' Kelly Swygert was the tough-luck pitcher for Washburn as she scattered eight hits in the loss dropping her record to 12-7 on the season. The Lady Blues' Mandi Daigh had the only base hit for the Washburn in the first game as they stranded five base runners. In the second game, Emporia State jumped on the Lady Blues for three unearned runs in the bottom of the first and added four more in the bottom of the fifth and finished the game with a single run in the sixth.
Daigh, Dani White and Mandy Tarbutton each had hits for Washburn. Erin Pierce took the loss falling to 12-5 on the season.
