Lady Blues split games in day 1 of NWMSU Classic

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Washburn Lady Blues split a pair of games at the Northwest MIssouri Classic on Friday falling to Upper Iowa 5-0 before coming back to win the nightcap 3-0 over the host Bearcats.
In the first game against Upper Iowa, the Lady Blues fell behind 5-0 after three innings and managed only four hits in the loss.
Against the Bearcats, who are the No. 4 team in the North Central Regional rankings, trailed 1-0 after five innings of play, but back to back home runs by Washburn's Brooke DeVader and Dani White pushed the lead to 3-0 and that is all Kelly Swygert would need as she picked up her 13th win of the season with the 5-hit shutout.
On Saturday, the Lady Blues, who were ranked No. 3 in the latest North Central Regional rankings, will take on Minnesota State-Mankato at 9:30 a.m., the wrap up the tournament against Central Missouri at 1:30 p.m.
