Lady Blues play home run derby in pair of wins at Northwest Missouri

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Washburn Lady Blues used the long ball alot on the final day of the Northwest Missouri Classic as they belted out a two-game total of nine home runs in a 10-9 win over Minnesota State-Mankato and a 6-4 win over Central Missouri. The Lady Blues are now 27-13 overall and they will travel to Bolivar, Mo. on Tuesday (April 18) to take on Southwest Baptist.

In the first game against Mankato, the Lady Blues blasted a new school record with their six home runs. Washburn's Brooke DeVader and Dani White each had two and Shannon Gosser and Ashley Webb had solo shots in the win. The Lady Blues scored six in top 7th on four home runs in the inning. DeVader drives in four runs in the game finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored and White plates three going 2-for-3. The six home runs were one shy of the MIAA record set by Missouri Western against the Lady Blues last season.

In the second game against the Jennies, the Lady Blues fell behind 2-0 after the first inning of play, but Washburn rallied to score all six runs of their runs in the fourth fifth and sixth innings as Kala Huske ties WU's single season home run mark with her 11th in the fifth inning - a three-run shot. Mandi Daigh drove in two with her home run in the bottom of the sixth.

Kelly Swygert picked up the pitching wins in both games improving to 15-7 on the season.
