TOPEKA - The No. 22 ranked Washburn Lady Blues rolled to a pair of shutout wins over Oklahoma Panhandle. The Lady Blues took the opener 12-0 before finishing the day winning the second game 11-0. Washburn is now 33-13 on the season.
In the first game, Brooke DeVader set a new Washburn record with 6 RBI after going 3-for-3 with a grand slam and a triple with three runs scored and eight total bases. There were six Lady Blues that had recorded 5 RBI before DeVader set the new mark. Ashly Webb recorded two hits. Kelly Swygert and Shannon Gosser combined on the shutout with Swygert picking up her 18th win of the season.
In the nightcap, the Lady Blues scored seven in the third inning recording three doubles in the inning capped by DeVader's two-out two-bagger which pushed her RBI total for the afternoon to 10. In the fourth inning, Dani White hit her 12th home run of the season to snap the Lady Blues single-season record. Erin Pierce picked up the shutout scattering four hits and striking out six in her 15th win of the season.
DeVader finished the afternoon 5-for-6 with 10 RBI. She had a grand slam, a triple, two doubles and a single while scoring four runs. She raised her doubles total to 16 on the season, which is third on the single-season chart.
The Lady Blues will be back in action on Wednesday at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka at 5 p.m. when they take on No. 2 ranked Emporia State in a non-conference doubleheader.
