Lady Blues knocked from MIAA tournament

SHAWNEE, Kan. - The Washburn Lady Blues went 1-2 en route to elimination in the MIAA Tournament. The Lady Blues started out with a 5-2 win over Central Missouri before dropping a 10-1 decision to No. 2 ranked Emporia State and then they were eliminated 9-2 by Northwest Missouri. The Lady Blues will now have to wait until Sunday to see if they will receive an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Washburn was ranked No. 4 in the latest regional poll. Washburn's record currently stands at 36-19.
Washburn 5, Central Missouri 2
The Washburn Lady Blues opened the MIAA Championship Tournament with a 5-2 win over Central Missouri powered by Ashley Webb's 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Webb hit hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning that snapped a 1-1 tie and she sent an opposite field homer to right in the sixth. Webb finshed with two runs scored and four RBI against the Jennies. Kelly Swygert improved to 20-9 allowing two earned runs scattering six hits.
No. 2 Emporia State 10, Washburn 1
Brooke DeVader hit her seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh to spoil ESU's shutout bid. ESU jumped on the board with three runs in their first at bat with back to back home runs in the inning. ESU added five in the top of the seventh. Washburn committed five errors in the game.
Northwest Missouri 9, Washburn 2
The Bearcats scored seven runs in the first three innings leading to a 7-1 lead. The Lady Blues scored single runs in the second and the fifth innings.
