Lady Blues split opening days action in Southwestern Oklahoma festival

WEATHERFORD, OKLA. - The Washburn Lady Blues softball team opened the 2007 season splitting a pair of games in a four-team event hosted by
Southwestern Oklahoma. Washburn won their opener against Southwestern
Oklahoma 6-0 and fell in the second game to St. Gregory's 4-0.
The Lady Blues smashed open a close game against SWOK scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth innning. Freshman Jessie Batres had a 2 RBI triple in the inning and junior Mandy Tarbutton and freshman Tish
Williams also had an RBI in the inning. Junior Kelly Swygert picked up
the win pitching five innings allowing five hits and freshman Nicole
Perkuhn tossed two innings with three strikeouts for the save. Tarbutton
finished the game 3 for 4.
In the second game against St. Gregory's, Washburn was touched for two
runs in the fourth and fifth innings as freshman Kayla Long picked up
the loss. St. Gregory's Sharon Bell tossed the one-hitter allowing a
first inning double to junior Brooke DeVader.
The Lady Blues will be back in action on Sunday in a pair of games
against the host Bulldogs and Adams State.
