Lady Blues sign 7 for
2006-07 school year

Feb. 7, 2006 - Washburn Lady Blues head softball coach Lisa Carey has announced the signing of seven student-athletes who will join the Lady Blues for the start of the 2006-07 school year.
"We're excited about these student-athletes joining our program," Carey said. "These are very talented players who will have an immediate impact on out team."

Jessica Batres - 5-9, 3B, Kansas City, Mo./Oak Park High School
Was a four-year letterman in softball …named all-league all four season and all-district her sophomore, junior and senior seasons … an all-state, all-region, and all-metro pick as a senior … a member of the National Honor Society … daughter of Tom and Karel Batres … anticipated major is education.

Michelle Converse - 5-6, Outfielder, Harveyville, Kan./Mission Valley High School
A first team all-state pick as a junior … an honorable mention selection as a sophomore … all-league as a sophomore and junior … also an all-league pick in volleyball and basketball … daughter of Roger and Debbie Converse … anticipated major is nursing.

Danielle Hodge - 5-7, 1B, Lenexa, Kan./Shawnee Mission West High School
A first team all-league pick as a sophomore and a second team all-league selection as a junior …also played volleyball and basketball … daughter of Kenneth and Sherry Hodge … anticipated major is education.

Megan Kimerer - 5-2, Pitcher, Kansas City, Mo./St. Pius X High School
Was a four-time first team all-district pick and a three-time all-league pick …named second team all-state as a senior … as a senior, she batted .464 with four home runs, 20 RBI and a .833 slugging percentage … her pitching stats from her senior year were 153 innings pitched, 0.92 ERA with 180 strikeouts and only 13 walks … daughter of Kirt and Cynthia Kimerer … anticipated major is pre-med.

Kayla Long - 5-7, Pitcher, Princeton, Texas/Princeton High School
Will be a four-year letterman … named honorable mention as a freshman, first team all-district as sophomore and junior … part of area champs as a junior and named district's most valuable player … placed fifth at the USSSA World Series last July … a member of the National Honor Society … daughter of Leann Cassady … anticipated major is accounting.

Kendra Roles - 5-8, Pitcher, Hays, Kan./Thomas More Prep High School
Was named first team all-league as a freshman and first team all-area …as a sophomore, named first team all-league, all-area and all-state … named first team all-league, first team all-area and first team all-state as a junior and was named pitcher of the year by the Hutchinson News … high school record is 58-8 with 639 strikeouts and 31 walks … anticipated psychology.

Whitney Tapp - 5-2, Catcher/3B, Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South High School
Named honorable mention all-district as a sophomore … named first team all-district and second team all-league as a junior …as a senior, was named second team all-league and honorable mention all-district … named to USSSA all-World Series team in 2005 … a member of the National Honor Society … daughter of Mark Tapp and Laura and Dale Duncan … anticipated pre-med.
