TOPEKA - The Washburn Lady Blues
were perfect in the first day of action in the Ramada Inn Big Blue Classic
as they topped Colorado Springs 4-0, Tarleton State 8-7 and South Dakota
State 6-1. They will take on No. 4 seed Colorado Springs in the semifinals
at 10 am on Saturday morning at the Washburn Softball Complex.
In the first game in a 4-0 win over Colorado-Colorado
Springs, the Lady Blues' Ashley Perkins pitches five innings for win.
Julie Blaufuss hit her third home run of season. Kristen Cheney, Keri
Tanner and Katie Schmidt each hit doubles.
Against the TexAnns, the Lady Blues scored an exciting
come-from-behind win scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh
inning to record a 8-7 win. Molly Gleisberg's two-out single scored
Jenny Fletcher and Brook Lyons with the go-ahead and winning runs. Earlier
in the inning, Dara Clouse smashed her second home run of the season.
Holly Reichel picked up the win tossing four innings in relief allowing
one earned run.
In the final game of the day, the Lady Blues topped South
Dakota State 6-1. Reichel picked up her second win throwing a complete
game striking out five allowing one earned run, scattering seven hits.
Julie Blaufuss was 2 for 4 with her fourth home run of the season and
second of the day driving in two runs. Clouse also hit her second home
run in as many games.
In other games, Tarleton State went 2-1 with a 9-2 win
over Colorado Springs and a 16-6 win over South Dakota State and Colorado
Springs fell to South Dakota State 9-2.
In the other game tomorrow, Tarleton State will take on
South Dakota State with the winner of that game taking on the winner
of the Washburn-Colorado Springs game for the championship. The losers
of each game will take on each other in the consolation finals.
