Cheney named MIAA Player of the Week

Cheney, a 5-foot-7 senior from Wichita, Kan., hit .690 with two home
runs and seven RBI, as the Lady Blues went 8-1 on the week, including
5-0 at the WU Big Blue
Classic last weekend. Cheney is the second straight Lady Blues to win
the award as Julie Blaufuss won the award the first week.
She had at least two hits in eight of Washburn's nine
games last week, and collected three hits on four occa-sions. She also
scored at least once in all nine games on
the week, and extended her hitting streak to 10 games.
Cheney went 5-for-7 in a doubleheader sweep at Fort Hays
(Kan.) State on March 13. She had a triple among her three hits in the
nightcap, and drove in two runs.
A solo homer capped a 3-for-3 performance in game two of Washburn's
split with South Dakota State on March 14. She was 1-for-3 with a walk
and two steals in the first
game against the Jackrabbits.
Cheney hit .688 (11-of-16) with a homer and four RBI during
the Big Blue Classic. She hit another solo homer against Colorado-Colorado
Springs on Saturday (March
16), and was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored against
Tarleton (Texas) State.
For the week, Cheney was 20-of-29, stole four bases, drew
seven walks and recorded an on-base percentage of .750.
She is a graduate of Bishop Carroll High School.
