TOPEKA - The No. 18 Lady Blues ended the regular season on a sour note
as Central Missouri shutout Washburn for the first time in 44 games
in a 1-0 loss on Senior Day.
The Lady Blues (46-9, 16-2 MIAA) were held without a hit
for the first four and two-third innings as Holly Reichel's single broke
up Erin Wood's no-hit bid. Wood struck out eight Lady Blues while walking
two.
The Jennies (31-16, 13-5 MIAA) would score the only run
of the game in the second inning as Emmie Shaw would hit a two-out double
to right field scoring Noelle Casas with what would be the winning run.
Ashley Perkins pitched a solid game for the Lady Blues
allowing only three hits while striking out seven and walking one. The
Lady Blues left seven base runners on in the game.
With the regular season complete, the Lady Blues now head
to Gladstone, Mo. for the MIAA Championship Tournament. The Lady Blues
enter as the No. 1 seed by virtue of their MIAA Regular Season Championship.
They will take on the No. 8 seeded Southwest Baptist University Bearcats
on Friday.
