Lady Blues go 3-0 in Texas swing

IRVING, TEXAS - The Washburn Lady Blues swept through Texas winning three games advancing to the Championship Bracket - but cold weather stopped the tournament before the top flight could play.

The Lady Blues topped Southeastern Oklahoma 6-1 in their first game. Ashley Perkins came in the game in relief to pitch the final four innings striking out two and allowing one hit. Julie Blaufuss smashed her second home run of the season in the second inning. Starting pitcher Holly Reichel stayed in the game after Perkins relieved her to drive in the go ahead run in the fourth inning scoring Dawn Nachbar.

Against the No. 6 ranked West Florida Argonauts, the Lady Blues needed extra innings to win 2-1. Washburn scored the winning run in bottom of eighth inning on Kristen Cheney's single. Lady Blues tie game in bottom of seventh on Dara Clouse's Sac Fly. Perkins picks up her second straight win in relief pitching final three innings.

To wrap up the day, the Lady Blues knocked off Incarnate Word 2-1. The Lady Blues scored two in bottom of fourth on runs driven in by Jackie Sells and Brooke Lyons. Perkins pitched a complete game striking out 10 while scattering four hits.

The Lady Blues take on Kansas tomorrow in Lawrence at 4 p.m. in a seven inning contest.
