Lady Blues eliminated from MIAA Tournament

GLADSTONE, MO - After opening the first day of the MIAA Softball Tournament 2-0, the Lady Blues were shutout in their second two games falling 6-0 to Central Missouri and 1-0 to Truman State. Truman State came back through the losers bracket to beat the Jennies in the double championship 4-2 after forcing the extra game with a 3-1, 10-inning win. Truman State will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA North Central Regional Tournament. The Lady Blues will now need an at-large bid to the tournament. Those invitations will be announced Sunday night. Be sure to check the Blue Zone for information.

Day 2

The Lady Blues were eliminated after falling to Truman State 1-0. The Lady Blues picked up only four hits on the afternoon as the Bulldogs' Britni Buford struck out six Lady Blues. The lone run in the game was scored on Elizabeth Economon's home run in the sixth inning.

In the first game in the winner's bracket finals, the Lady Blues were shutdown by CMSU's Erin Wood. Wood tossed a three-hit shutout for the Jennies. Desiree' Price drove in the go-ahead and winning run in the first as the Jennies took advantage of three Washburn errors and three free passes. All of the walks for the Jennies scored.

 

Day 1

The Lady Blues opened up the event with a 2-0 win over Southwest Baptist. Crystal Wittlinger got the socring going for the Lady Blues with a solo home run in the third inning and Molly Gleisberg drove in the other run for the Lady Blues. Katie Gregg improved to 21-2 on the season tossing the four-hit shutout striking out six and walking only one.

In the second game, WU catcher Julie Blaufuss finished 3-3 with two solo home runs and Kristen Cheney was 2-2 with one run scored. Ashley Perkins improved to 18-4 on the season striking out five and walking one. Blaufuss became the 13th Lady Blue to hit two home runs in a single game.
