Washburn/ESU win matches at Lady Blues Invitational

TOPEKA - The No. 23 Washburn Lady Blues topped Wayne State 30-19, 30-21, 30-21 in their only match in the Lady Blues Invitational at Lee Arena Friday night.

Dani McHenry led Washburn with 13 kills and 18 digs, while Anna Neufeld added seven kills without an error in 19 attempts. Katie Brandt had six kills in 12 attempts without an error and Julie Sackman had eight kills and 30 assists.

Emporia State opened the tournament with a 30-28, 30-24, 30-27 win over Rockhurst. Alycia Ryff led ESU with 14 kills, while Mandy Stratton had a team-high 22 digs. Jessica Shepler had 22 kills for Rockhurst.

Rockhurst topped Wayne State 30-27, 30-18, 30-25 in the first match Saturday. Shepler had a team-high 19 kills. In the Invitational's final match, Emporia State beat Wayne State 30-21, 30-21, 30-2. Jacey Kuch led WSC with 14 kills, while Jessica Stambaugh led ESU with 10 kills.
