TOPEKA - The No. 17 Washburn volleyball team erased deficits in the final two games to outlast No. 7 Central Missouri State 20-30, 30-21, 25-30, 30-28, 15-9 in Lee Arena Tuesday night.

With Washburn trailing 5-3 in the fifth game, Dani McHenry brought the Lady Blues back with three straight kills along with a CMSU error to make it 7-5. Her final kill of the match made it 12-8 in the game before Central pulled within 12-9 on Elyse Mohme's kill.

Monica Miesner's kill made it 13-9 and gave her the serve for the final two points. Katie Brandt and Julie Sackman teamed up for a block before Miesner's ace sealed the victory.

Central Missouri owned game one with a .333 attacking percentage, compared to Washburn's .111 percentage. After WU led 9-8 early, Central used several WU errors to take a 15-9 lead and cruise to victory.

Washburn turned the tables in game two by hitting .292, compared to the Jennies' .136 mark. After Brandt's ace made it 3-2 the Lady Blues led the rest of the way.

Central went on a 7-0 run to take a 16-9 lead in the third game. WU rallied and closed the gap to 29-25 on McHenry's kill before a controversial blocking violation gave the Jennies the game.

The Jennies took control of the fourth game on three straight kills to make it 16-11. WU rallied back and pulled even on McHenry's kill to tie it at 28. Brandt followed with a kill before McHenry sealed the game with another kill.

McHenry, who earned MIAA Hitter of the Week honors for last week's performance, finished with 27 kills. Brandt and Emily Foster added 22 and 19 kills respectively. Juile Sackman had 66 assists and 24 digs, while Wendy Kobbeman added 24 digs.

Mohme led Central Missouri with 24 kills, while Becky Haug added 19 kills. Katie Tarka had a match-high 27 digs for the Jennies.

The Lady Blues are back in action 7 p.m. Thursday for Senior Night against Benedictine in Lee Arena.
