Topeka -- Lady Blues head volleyball coach Chris Herron has announced today that former Kansas volleyball player Tessa Jones will transfer and play for the Lady Blues this fall. Jones will be a sophomore at Washburn. Jones is a 6-0, outside hitter from Lee’s Summit, Mo.
As a prep at Bishop O’Hara High School in Kansas City, she was an All-American Fab 50 pick and a three-time All-State pick leading the Celtics to two state championships. She was also an All-Metro and a First Team All-Tournament selection at the United States Volleyball Association National Tournament.
She set numerous state tournament records and owns most of the state career marks, including the kills record. She was also named Academic All-State. She played club volleyball with the Kansas City Power.
“We excited with having a player of Tessa’s caliber joining us,” Herron said. “We lost a great senior class from last season’s team and she will be an impact player for us.”
Out of high school, she was recruited by Missouri, Kansas State, Duke and Minnesota.
