TOPEKA - The No. 19 Washburn Lady Blues topped Missouri Western 30-22, 30-16, 30-17 in their MIAA opener in Lee Arena Wednesday night.

Katie Brandt, who was named MIAA Hitter of the Week Tuesday, led
Washburn with 14 kills in 26 attempts. Emily Foster added 10 kills, while Dani McHenry had nine kills. Wendy Kobbeman had a team-high 20 digs, while Julie Sackman had 31 assists. Sackman was the MIAA Specialist of the Week for the second straight time Tuesday.

The Lady Blues, who improved to 13-0 and 1-0 in the MIAA, hit .321 for the match. Washburn hit .438 with 15 kills in 32 attempts in game two and took a 22-6 lead to begin the game.

Washburn is back in action 7 p.m. Friday night at Northwest Missouri State before facing No. 3 Truman State in Kirksville, Mo. 5 p.m. Saturday.
