MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 19 Washburn Lady Blues held of Northwest Missouri State 30-22, 29-31, 30-20, 27-30, 15-9 in Bearcat Arena Friday night. The match was the first five-game match for the Lady Blues all season.
With the win Washburn improved to 14-0 and 2-0 in the MIAA heading into Saturday's 5 p.m. showdown against No. 3 Truman State (11-0, 2-0 MIAA). The Bulldogs swept Emporia State 30-19, 30-26, 30-13 Friday and are tied with WU atop the conference.
Emily Foster and Dani McHenry led Washburn with 19 kills apiece, while Katie Brandt added 17 kills. McHenry also had a team-high 22 digs, while Wendy Kobbeman added 19 digs. Julie Sackman dished out 56 assists.
Lauren Cummings led Northwest with 18 kills, while Heston Mackenzie added 17 kills.
After Saturday's match at Truman, Washburn is back in action 7 p.m. Wednesday at Missouri Southern.
