TOPEKA - The No. 15 Washburn Lady Blues topped No. 22 Rockhurst 30-14, 21-30, 30-25, 24-30, 16-14 in Lee Arena Thursday night. The Lady Blues staged a huge comeback in game five to win their improve to 6-0 in Lee Arena this season.

The Lady Blues rallied from a 13-9 deficit in the fifth game. Two errors by Rockhurst and a kill and an ace from Valerie Peterson tied the game at 13. RU regained the lead before a kill by Dani McHenry tied it again. An error by the Hawks and a kill off on a block on a long rally by Anna Byers and Dani McHenry gave Washburn the victory.

Washburn raced to an early 22-7 lead in game one after two blocks. Katie Brandt and McHenry assisted on a block before Brandt and Ashley Smith gave WU its sixth block of the game. Washburn finished the game with eight of its season-high 17 blocks in the opening game.

The teams traded wins in game two and three before Rockhurst tied the match with a win in game four. Karla Schroff finished the game with one of her team-high 15 kills.

McHenry finished with a season-high 25 kills, while Emily Foster added 21 kills. Wendy Kobbeman had a season-high 25 digs, while Brandt tied a season-high with eight blocks. Monica Miesner had 13 kills in 20 attempts to hit .650 for the match.

Washburn heads back to the second half of MIAA play 7 p.m. at Missouri Western Wednesday night. The Lady Blues are in third in the MIAA with a 19-3 overall and 6-2 MIAA record.
