Nov. 23, 2004 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Washburn's Dani McHenry and Emily Foster were named the the AVCA All-South Central Region team and Katie Brandt was an honorable mention selection, which was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Tuesday.
McHenry, a 6-0 senior outside hitter from Topeka, had 534 kills (4.34 kills/game), 429 digs (3.49 digs/game), and 90 blocks (0.73 blocks/game). Her 4.34 kills per game average broke the Washburn season record of 4.26 kill per game she had last season and her 534 kills rank third in Washburn single season history. She is fourth all-time in Washburn history with 1,491 career kills and seventh with 112 career aces in just three seasons. She was a three-time first team All-MIAA selection and two-time AVCA All-South Central Region selection.
Foster, a 5-7 senior outside hitter from Meriden, Kan., had 516 kills (4.16 kills/game), 472 digs (3.81 digs/game) and a team-high 63 aces. Her 516 kill total was sixth in single season history and her 63 aces were tied for second in school history. She hit .275 for the season and was named AVCA Division II National Player of the Week on Oct. 4.
Brandt, a 6-1 senior middle hitter from Chicago, Ill., had a team-high .302 hitting percentage with 408 kills (3.26 kills/game) and a team-high 160 blocks (1.28 blocks/game). Her 160 blocks led the MIAA and tied her for seventh in Washburn single season history. She is sixth all-time Washburn history with 377 total career blocks and eighth in solo blocks with 87. Brandt also earned South Central Region All-Tournament honors this past weekend.
The AVCA All-American teams will be announced Monday (Nov. 29). McHenry became Washburn's first AVCA All-American when she earned honorable mention honors last season.
The No. 16 Lady Blues finished the season with a 29-7 record after a loss to No. 10 Central Missouri State in the South Central Region Tournament in Kirksville, Mo.
