Oct. 5, 2004 - OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The MIAA announced Tuesday that Washburn's Emily Foster was the Wilson/MIAA Volleyball Hitter of the Week. She was also named AVCA Division II National Player of the Week Monday.

Foster, a 5-7 senior outside hitter, averaged 7.75 points, 6.33 kills, 4.17 digs, 1.00 blocks and 0.83 service aces per game as the Lady Blues split a pair of matches last week.

Foster hit .500 with a career-high 24 kills and 12 digs in a loss to No. 9 Central Missouri State on Sept. 28. She followed that performance with 14 kills, 13 digs, five blocks and four aces in a victory over Emporia State on Oct. 1.

She hit .432 for the week with 38 kills on 74 swings and just six attack errors. Foster is the first Lady Blue to win the national award in school history.

Foster, who transferred to Washburn as a junior in 2003, is a Meriden, Kan. native and graduate of Jefferson West High School.

The Lady Blues travel to No. 13 Fort Hays State 7 p.m. Monday night. Washburn's start ties the school record of the 2002 team, which also started 18-2.
