The Washburn volleyball team was No. 18 in the 2005 Preseason AVCA Division II Top 25 Poll, which was released Tuesday. The No. 18 ranking is the best mark to open a season in school history. The Lady Blues were as high as No. 15 during the 2004 season and finished at No. 16.
The Lady Blues went 29-7 overall last season and made their second trip to the NCAA National Tournament in school history. Truman State was second in the poll, while Central Missouri State was seventh in the poll from the MIAA.
The Lady Blues, who officially begin practice Thursday, open the 2005 season at the Missouri Southern Invitational Aug. 26-27.
