WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The No. 7 Washburn Lady Blues won the outright MIAA volleyball title with a 30-27, 30-28, 26-30, 32-30, 15-10 victory over No. 14 Central Missouri State Tuesday night. The conference title is the second for the Lady Blues, who won their first title in 2002.

Tessa Jones led the way for Washburn with a career-high 26 kills and a .311 hitting percentage, while Monica Miesner added a career-high 24 kills. Andi Moran also had a career best with 72 assists, while Erica Cowhick had a match-high 32 digs. Brooke Butler led Central with 21 kills.

The Lady Blues pulled out two close calls in the first two games by hitting .280 and .237 respectively in games one and two. Jones and Miesner had 14 and 11 kills respectively after the first two games.

Central responded to take game three by hitting a match-high .286 before rallying for a win in game four after trailing 30-29 to set up the deciding game.

Central took an early 6-4 lead in game five before Washburn reeled off seven straight points, including a block and a kill by Mandi Cox to take an 11-7 lead. CMSU got no closer and Miesner finished the match with a kill.

Washburn, which improved to 29-1 and 14-1 in the MIAA, hosts a non-conference match against Benedictine 7 p.m. Thursday in Lee Arena.
