OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Washburn sophomore Middle Hitter Mandy Cox was named MIAA Volleyball Hitter of the Week by the conference office Monday. Pittsburg State libero Pam Radell was named MIAA Specialist of the Week.
Cox, a 6-foot-0 sophomore from Richmond, Kan., hit .479 (29 kills, 6 errors, 48 attempts) and averaged 4.43 points per game as the Lady Blues extended their school-record winning streak to 20 matches last week.
She hit .533 (19-3-30) and scored 20 points (19 kills, 2 block assists) in a 3-1 win at then-No. 20 Rockhurst (Mo.) Nov. 1. She also added an assist and a dig. The 19 kills were a career high.
Cox's four straight kills early in game three gave WU the momentum it needed to break a 1-1 tie in the match against the Lady Hawks. She had
seven kills in game three alone.
She finished the week and the regular season with 11 points (10 kills, 2 block assists) and hit .389 (10-3-18) in a home sweep of Newman (Kan.) Thursday (Nov. 3).
