TOPEKA - The No. 7 Washburn volleyball team advanced to the MIAA Tournament finals with a 30-24, 30-28, 30-23 win over Emporia State Thursday night in Lee Arena.

Washburn will face No. 8 Truman State Saturday at 2 p.m. in Lee Arena. The Bulldogs swept Central Missouri State 30-28, 30-27, 30-12 in Kirksville, Mo. Thursday night.

Washburn fell behind by as many as three points in the opening game before taking the lead for good on an Anna Byers kill to make it 18-17. Tessa Jones had her fifth kill of the game to make it 28-24 before two ESU errors gave WU the win.

The Lady Blues and Hornets changed leads several times in game two and ESU took a 24-22 lead. Washburn responded with four straight points to pull ahead and Monica Miesner closed the game with her fourth kill of the game.

Washburn took an early lead and cruised in game three. Mandi Cox had one of her game-high seven kills to give WU a 27-17 lead before an attack error by the Hornets gave Washburn the win moments later.

Cox finished with a match-high 14 kills, while Miesner and Jones addded 13 and 11 kills respectively. Erica Cowhick had 22 digs, while Miesner added 19 digs. Andi Moran had 49 assists and 10 digs. Cowhick broke the school record for digs in a season and now has 637 in 35 matches.

Washburn improved to 34-1 and extended its winning streak to 21 matches.
