TOPEKA – Head coach Chris Herron announced Thursday that Danielle Bergmeier has signed a national letter of intent and will attend Washburn this fall and play volleyball.
Bergmeier, from Omaha, Neb., was a two-time all-state selection as an outside hitter for the Millard North Mustangs. Her senior year she finished in the top 10 in the state in digs and service aces and she helped her team to a state semifinal appearance. She also earned all-conference honors and academic all-state honors twice. She was also a forward on the basketball team.
Bergmeier will join Washburn newcomers Shannon Bechard, Ashley Shepard and Kelci Wigger who signed in the fall. The Lady Blues went 35-3 last year and won the MIAA with a 15-1 record. They set the school record for wins and winning percentage (.921) and advanced to the second round of the NCAA II tournament. They were No. 10 in the final AVCA national poll.
