The eighth-ranked Lady Blues dropped the first two games of their MIAA match at Pittsburg State but then fought back to take the last three for a 3-2 win Wednesday night. Washburn, winner of six straight, improved to 13-2 and 2-0 in the conference with the 25-30, 25-30, 30-17, 30-28, 16-14 win.

Junior libero Erica Cowhick set a rally-scoring era record at Washburn with 51 digs in the match. She held the previous record of 43 against Central Missouri State in 2005. The total is the highest since rally scoring began in 2001.

Freshman outside hitter Ashley Shepard had a team season-high 22 kills and junior middle hitter Mandi Cox had 18 and hit .515 for the match. Sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Nitz had 14 kills and sophomore outside hitter Bobi Riley had 13 and with 10 digs, she had her first career double-double.

Riley and Cowhick joined three other Lady Blues with double-figure digs. Freshman setter Kate Hampson led the offense with 52 assists.

Despite being out blocked 17.5 to 6.0 and having a lower team attack percentage, the Lady Blues were able to fight back and win against PSU for the fourth straight time. The last time Washburn came back to win a match after being down 2-0 was at Colorado Mines September 2 of last year.
