Despite being out hit for the third straight match, the Lady Blues held on for a 3-1 win over Missouri Southern Saturday night to win their seventh straight match. No. 8 Washburn improved to 14-2 and stayed perfect in the MIAA at 3-0 with the 30-28, 30-26, 19-30, 31-29 win.

Junior rightside hitter Tessa Jones led Washburn with 16 kills and freshman outside hitter Ashely Shepard had 14. Freshman setter Kate Hampson had a double-double with 49 assists and 21 digs. Junior libero Erica Cowhick led the Lady Blues with 29 digs and senior rightside hitter Valerie Peterson also had 21. She also led the team with a career-high tying four service aces.

The Lions out hit Washburn .165 to .143 and were led by Tessa Woods with 23 kills. MSSU also out blocked the Lady Blues 11-9.

Washburn will hit the road Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match at Emporia State to continue MIAA play.
