Four Lady Blues reach double figures in kills in win over NWMSU

Junior outside hitter Bailey Saal had her fourth double-double of the year and joined three other Lady Blues with double-figure kills as Washburn won its ninth straight match, 3-1 Saturday over Northwest Missouri State. The eighth-ranked Lady Blues took the non-conference contest 30-28, 30-27, 38-30, 30-19 to improve to 16-2 on the year.
Junior rightside hitter Tessa Jones led WU with 16 kills, junior middle hitter Mandi Cox had 15 and sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Nitz had 13. Saal had 10 and 17 digs.
Junior libero Erica Cowhick had 44 digs to lead all players and freshman setter Kate Hampson had a double-double with 40 assists and 17 digs. Sophomore setter Carolyn Raynes moved eight assists from the WU career top-10 with 16 in the match. She now has 741 in her two years.
Washburn out blocked NWMSU 10-4 with Cox contributing in six of them. She also led the team with a .394 attack percentage. Overall, the Lady Blues had a .229 hitting percentage and kept the Bearcats to .142 hitting.
The Lady Blues will host Truman Friday at 7 p.m. The No. 4 Bulldogs are 5-0 to lead the MIAA East Division while the Lady Blues lead the West at 4-0.
