Lady Blues go 3-1 at HSU Regional Crossover with two wins Saturday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The No. 12 Lady Blues won three of four matches Friday and Saturday at the Henderson State Regional Crossover. On Friday they defeated Arkansas-Monticello 32-30, 28-30, 30-26, 30-28 and then they lost to West Florida 24-30, 30-19, 30-26, 30-25. On Saturday they defeated Harding 30-28, 30-23, 26-30, 19-30, 15-9 in the opener and then swept HSU 30-24, 30-24, 30-24.

Junior middle hitter Mandi Cox led four Lady Blues in double figures with 13 kills and she had a .500 hitting percentage as Washburn swept HSU Saturday. Junior rightside hitter Tessa Jones had 12 kills and outside hitters freshman Ashley Shepard and junior Bailey Saal each had over 10. Freshman setter Kate Hampson had 45 assists and junior libero Erica Cowhick had 18 digs to lead four players with more than 10. As a team the Lady Blues hit .252.

Against Harding the Lady Blues were led by Cox with 17 kills and 58 assists from Hampson. Shepard had 15 kills, sophomore outside hitter Bobi Riley had 13 kills and freshman middle hitter Shannon Bechard had 11 and eight blocks.

Against Arkansas-Monticello on Friday Jones had 17 kills and Cowhick had 40 digs. Shepard had 16 kills and Bechard turned in 12 kills with a .478 hitting percentage. Saal had 13 kills. Cowhick reached the 40-dig mark for the third time this year in the win.

In the evening match Friday against UWF Jones had 16 kills and Cox added 11. Cowhick had 29 digs. Bechard had six blocks and Jones had four.
