Lady Blues drop MIAA match at Northwest Missouri State

MARYVILLE, Mo. – After dominating in the first game, the Lady Blues lost their steam and were swept in the next three as they lost 3-1 (21-30, 30-15, 30-17, 30-20) at Northwest Missouri State. Washburn, ranked 15th in this week’s AVCA poll, fell to 22-6 and 7-3 in the MIAA. The Lady Blues will host Pittsburg State Friday at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena.

Washburn hit .400 as a team in the opening game but then turned in percentages of .089 and .075 during the next two games. The Lady Blues ended up hitting .176 as a team while the Bearcats hit .317 to beat Washburn for the first time since 2001, a streak spanning 11 wins for WU.

Tessa Jones led WU with 14 kills and Bobi Riley added 10 with a .348 hitting percentage. Kate Hampson had 40 assists and Erica Cowhick led with 30 digs.

NWMSU had 76 total kills while Washburn registered just 52. The Lady Blues were out-blocked 9-7.
