The No. 20 Lady Blues were swept (30-13, 30-28, 30-26) by No. 1 Truman in the MIAA tournament championship match to give the Bulldogs the conference championship Saturday afternoon at Lee Arena. Washburn will now hope to take its 27-8 record to its fourth NCAA tournament in five years. The announcement for the eight-team South Central regional will be made Sunday. The Lady Blues entered the conference tournament as the No. 3-ranked team in the region while the Bulldogs were the top team.

Junior libero Erica Cowhick ended to match with 32 digs to tie the Washburn career digs record with 1,627. Her next dig will make her the record holder, passing Shanna Haslett, a three-year player from 1988-90.

Washburn junior rightside hitter Tessa Jones had 14 kills to lead all players and freshman outside hitter Joanna Alfers came off the bench to record double-figure kills for the second straight day with 11. Jones led the WU hitters with a .367 attack percentage while junior middle hitter Mandi Cox had four blocks.

Freshman setter Kate Hampson had 39 assists, eight digs and three kills in the match. Junior outside hitter Bailey Saal had 10 digs.

Truman came out strong in the match, hitting .324 in the opening game and keeping WU to a -.048 percentage. Washburn out-hit TSU .340 to .308 in the second game but the Bulldogs won that game 30-28 and another close one, 30-26 in the third game. Washburn suffered its first sweep at home since 2004.
