Lady Blues earn No. 2 seed to NCAA South Central Region tournament

After a second-place finish in the MIAA postseason tournament and a 27-8 record, the Lady Blues earned the No. 2 seed in the South Central Region tournament that begins Thursday in Kirks ville, Mo. No. 20 Washburn will play West Florida, the seventh seed with a 19-14 record in a first round match at 2:30 p.m. The winner will take on the winner of the Central Missouri/Missouri Southern State match on Friday at 4 p.m. and the championship match is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. Tickets for each day of competition are $5 for adults and $3 for children, students and seniors.
Washburn is making its fourth trip to the NCAA tournament, all of them coming in the last five years under coach Chris Herron. The Lady Blues will be looking to advance to the second round for the third time and then make it to their first regional final.
No. 1-ranked Truman earned the top seed in the region and will host the eight-team regional. The Bulldogs will take on Albany State and Pittsburg State will go against North Alabama on the other side of the bracket. The regional final will be Saturday and the winner will advance to the Elite 8 November 16-18 in Pensacola, Fla., as part of the NCAA II National Championships Festival.
