Sept. 13, 2000 The Washburn Lady Blues came up just short for the second straight
match to the MIAA elite in a 3-2 (14-16, 15-8, 10-15, 15-8, 15-11) loss
to No. 15 Central Missouri State Wednesday night. The Lady Blues won the first game after capping a 16-14 victory with
three straight points, hitting .220 with 17 kills. Central Missouri tied the match before Washburn took a 2-1 lead on
Crystal Walker's ace to end game three. Central rallied to tie the match
at two. In the rally game the two teams fought to a 10-10 tie, before the Jennies
reeled off four straight points to take a 14-10 lead. Washburn closed
within 14-11 before a lifting call on the Lady Blues ended the match. Walker led Washburn with 22 kills, while Jill Gassen and Becky Hanish
added 20 and 16 kills respectively for the Lady Blues. Shera Karasiak
added a career-high 19 digs. Washburn fell to 4-4 and 1-3 in the MIAA, while Central Missouri State
won their 19th straight MIAA opener to improve to 10-2. The Lady Blues are back in action Sept. 16 at the Southwestern College
