Sept. 6, 2000 The Washburn Lady Blue volleyball team lost its home MIAA opener 3-2
(15-17, 15-12, 10-15, 15-9, 16-14) to Missouri Western in Lee Arena
Wednesday night. Washburn opened with a17-15 win in the opening game behind a .389 hitting
performance, including 26 kills. Missouri Western responded by hitting .391 in the second game and tied
the match. The two teams teams split the third and fourth games before
a deciding fifth game. In rally scoring Washburn took a lead and had two tries to win the
match, before Missouri Western rallied for a 16-14 victory. Becky Hanish, Jill Gassen and Crystal Walker each tallied 19 kills
to lead the Lady Blues. Walker, playing in her first game for Washburn,
added 15 digs in the loss. The loss leaves Washburn 3-2 (0-1 MIAA), while Missouri Western is 5-4 (1-0 MIAA). The Lady Blues are back in action 7 p.m. Friday night at Lee Arena against Southwest Baptist. |
