OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Washburn volleyball squad was picked seventh among nine teams in the preseason MIAA coaches poll.

Washburn, which finished seventh last year at 12-22 and 5-11 in the MIAA, has 10 new players and five returnees under new head coach Chris Herron.

Herron spent the previous three seasons at Benedictine College, where he compiled a 75-29 record.

Truman State, which was the first team in 20 years to oust Central Missouri out of first completely, was a slight favorite to win the conference with 61 points. CMSU was second at 60 points, picking up four first place votes to Truman's five.

Washburn opens the season Aug. 30-31 at the USC-Spartanburg Tournament in Spartanburg, S.C.
