Volleyball LogoLady Blues emerge undefeated in USCS Tournament

SPARTANBURG, S.C. Ñ The Washburn volleyball team swept two matches to emerge as the only undefeated team in the University of South Carolina-Spartanburg Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Blues topped Anderson (S.C.) College 30-14, 32-34, 30-20, 30-20 and Mount Olive (N.C.) College 30-22, 30-22, 30-17 to finish the weekend with a 4-0 record.

Sophomore outside hitter Dani McHenry and senior setter Lindsey Kersting made the all-tournament team for the Lady Blues.

McHenry, a Shawnee Heights graduate, had a team-high 42 kills and hit .294 for the Lady Blues in the tournament. She also tallied nine aces and six blocks.

Kersting, also a Shawnee Heights graduate, had 140 assists as WashburnÕs setter for a 11.67 assist per game average. She finished with 13 assists and six blocks, while hitting .317 for the tournament.

Sophomore defensive specialist Wendy Kobbeman, another Shawnee Heights graduate, led the team defensively with 51 digs.

The Lady Blues are back in action 7 p.m. Tuesday night in their home opener against Newman University. The Jets are coached by former Washburn assistant coach Dan Friend.
