The Washburn Lady Blues fell 3-1 (30-22, 31-33, 30-27, 30-22) to Missouri Southern Friday, before upsetting Pittsburg State 3-2 (30-23, 32-30, 27-30, 26-30, 15-11) Saturday afternoon.

Against Southern the Lady Blues rallied to take game two to tie the match with a 33-31 game win, before falling in the final two games.

Jill Gassen finished with 19 kills and broke Mandy Chester's school record of 1,613 career kills in the process. Susan Crooks added 14 kills and 14 digs, while Lindsey Kersting tallied 44 assists.

Against Pittsburg State the Lady Blues opened by winning the first two games, before dropping the next to force a deciding game five. Washburn held on and stunned the Gorillas 15-11 in the final game. The victory snapped a three-match losing skid.

Gassen tallied 22 more kills to increase her Washburn record to 1,646 career kills. Katie Ksiazek tallied 16 digs, while Kersting added 56 assists and a career-high seven service aces.

Washburn is back in action Wednesday night at Lee Arena against Missouri Western at 7 p.m.
