falls at No. 5 Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Washburn Lady Blues fell 73-51
to Kansas State in their exhibition opener in Bramlage Coliseum Wednesday
night.
The Lady Blues were cold from the field early, while
Kansas State took a 26-8 lead with 7:54 left in the first half. The
Wildcats stretched the lead to 30-11 before Washburn responded.
Lora Westling hit two 3-pointers and Juwanna Rivers added
a layup to pull the Lady Blues within 30-19 with 2:07 left in the opening
half. Westling scored all 10 of her points in the half, as Washburn
shot 26.9 percent (7-for-26).
Washburn opened the second half by scoring two early baskets,
including a 3-pointer by Brooke Ubelaker to pull within 37-28 at the
18:32 mark. Washburn couldn't get any closer as Kansas State pulled
away down the stretch.
Ubelaker led Washburn with 14 points by hitting 5 of 6
shots from the field. The Lady Blues finished the game 16 of 48 (33.3
percent) from the field, including 6 of 23 (26.1 percent) from beyond
the arch. Nicole Ohlde led all scorers for K-State with 16 points.
Washburn is back in action Saturday 5:30 in an exhibition
game against the Washburn Alumni team. The squad opens the regular season
7 p.m. Nov. 15 Evangel in Lee Arena.
