Erin Menard, a 5-foot-7 sophomore from Burlington, Kan., was named MIAA Player of the Week after averaging 23.0 points in 21.0 minutes of action per game for the Lady Blues off the bench in two games last week.
Menard was one shy of equalling the MIAA record for 3-pointers in a game following her 10-of-15 effort at home against Truman Saturday. Menard finished with 30 points in just 18 minutes, as WU won, 73-55. The 30 points are a single-game high in the MIAA this season.
The performance shattered the previous WU record of seven treys reached on two previous occasions. Rhonda Matzke hit seven 3-pointers against Truman State Jan. 30, 1993, while Brenda Schaffer-Dahl hit seven treys against Emporia State Feb. 16, 1988.
Menard’s 10 3-pointers were also a NCAA DIvision II best this season. South Dakota’s Erin Bourne had the previous high of nine against William Penn on Nov. 29. Only Joy Gallagher of Division I Wagner has hit more with her 11 3-pointers against Boston University on Dec. 30. Washburn took 40 three-point shots against Truman, setting an MIAA single-game record.
Menard was the Lady Blues' leading scorer with 16 points in 24 minutes in Washburn's 67-59 setback at Northwest Missouri State last Wednesday. She added two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
For the week, Menard was 16-of-28 from the field (57.1 percent), including 14-of-25 (56.0 percent) from the three-point line.
Menard, who enters the week tied for the conference lead in three pointers (2.80 per game), is a graduate of Burlington High School and transferred to WU from Oral Roberts (Okla.) University following her freshman season.
