TOPEKA - The No. 9 Washburn Lady Blues extended their winning streak to six games with a 67-37 win over Pittsburg State in Lee Arena Wednesday night.
PSU's 37 points tied the fewest by a Washburn opponent in an MIAA game. Washburn topped Missouri Southern 73-37 Feb. 12, 1990 in its first year in the MIAA.
The Lady Blues took a 5-0 lead on Brooke Ubelaker's 3-pointer 53 seconds into the game and never trailed. Carla Sintra scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the first half to help WU to a 25-19 lead at the break.
After Kami Scrivner's free throw pulled PSU within five in the opening seconds of the second half, Washburn expanded the lead to 39-22 with a 14-2 with 15:08 left. WU outscored the Gorillas 42-18 in the second half.
Ubelaker, Alison Garrett and Juwanna Rivers each had 10 points to compliment Sintra's 16. Scrivner led PSU with nine points. PSU hit only 13 of 48 (27.1 percent) of its field goal attempts.
Washburn is back in action 5:30 p.m. Saturday night at Missouri Southern.
