Blues hold off Jennies

The Washburn Lady Blues (8-6, 2-4) took a big lead, before
surviving with a 65-64 win over No. 24 Central Missouri State (11-3,
4-2) Wednesday night.
The Lady Blues led 58-45 with 9:14 to go, when the Jennies
rallied. Central capped a 17-5 run on Nicole Cassmeyer's layup with
2:23 left.
Washburn's Jovanae St. Cyr responded with a basket of
her own to extend the lead to 65-62. The two squads went scoreless before
Lori Nichols made it 65-64 on a jumper just outside the free throw line.
The Jennies forced a Washburn turnover and had a chance
to win it before missing two attempts in the final seconds of the ballgame.
Kristy Chapman scored 16 of her career-high 22 point,
including 11 of the Lady Blues' first 15 points in the second half.
Jennifer Butcher, St. Cyr and Crystal Walker each added
eight for Washburn, while Jena Shackelford tallied 18 points for the
Jennies.
Washburn is back in action 5:30 Saturday night at Lee
Arena against nationally-ranked Missouri Western.
