Lady Blues win both games at Drury Classic

The Washburn Lady Blues improved to 5-1 with a pair of wins at the Drury Classic in Springfield, Mo.

On Friday, Dec. 2, the Lady Blues were only up by a bucket at the half, but put on the jets scoring 44 points in the second half to pluck the Cotton Blossoms 78-59. The Lady Blues were 28-30 from the free throw line. Thorlan Buchanan led the Lady Blues with a career high 19 points. Kristy Chapman and Jennifer Butcher each had 12. Chapman was 7 of 7 from the stripe and Butcher was 6 of 6.

The following evening, it took a Chapman jumper with four seconds left to give the Lady Blues the win over Angelo State 69-68. The Lady Blues led by nine at halftime and by as many as 15 in the second half but let the lead slip away.

Butcher and Chapman each scored 13 to lead the Lady Blues. Jodi Rausch scored 11 as well as Crystal Walker. Walker also pulled down 10 rebounds for her first double-double of her Washburn career. Jovanae St. Cyr had 10 points.

The Lady Blues are off until Dec. 9 when the take on Kansas in an exhibition game at Allen Fieldhouse with a 2 p.m. start.
