St. Joseph - The Lady Blues season ended on Tuesday with
a 64-52 loss to No. 15-ranked Missouri Western in the first round of
the MIAA Tournament.
The Lady Blues (13-14) hit 8 of their first 11 shots en
route to opening up a 19-11 at the 8:32 mark of the first half, but
the Griffons would go on a 16-9 run to end the half, but the Lady Blues
were up by one, 28-27.
In the second half, Washburn would build a 10-point lead
at 37-27, then the flood gates opened as the Griffons would hit five
straight 3-pointers taking the lead at 41-40. The teams would trade
baskets and the Lady Blues would regain the lead at 44-41 with 14:08
left.
The Griffons would take the lead for good at 48-46 at
the 9:27 mark and outscored the Lady Blues 14-6 the rest of the way
to advance in the tournament.
Crystal Walker led the Lady Blues with 14 points and Jennifer
Butcher scored 11 and pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
