Lady Blues come up short to Southwest Baptist

The Washburn Lady Blues fell 73-65 to Southwest Baptist in Lee Arena Saturday night.

After the Lady Blues took a 19-15 lead on Kristy Chapman’s jumper in the lane, the Lady Bearcats caught fire. Southwest Baptist went on a 24-10 run to finish the half after Carrie Long made two free throws with three seconds left to make it 39-29.

Washburn got within two at 55-53 on Jodi Rausch’s layup with 9:03 to play. The Lady Bearcats responded again with a quick 14-5 run to make it 69-58 and never looked back.

Jennifer Butcher ignighted a second half charge with 14 of her 18 points. Chapman and Crystal Walker finished with 13 points apiece.

The Lady Blues are back in action 5:30 Monday night at Truman State.
