Lady Blues pick up first MIAA win

The Washburn Lady Blues provided coach Ron McHenry his first MIAA victory with a 63-52 win over Truman State in Lee Arena Monday night.

After the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead, Washburn scored the next eight points and never looked back. Washburn held Truman State to a 36.4 percent mark from the field and forced 25 Bulldog turnovers.

The Lady Blues capped an 11-2 run in the first half on Crystal Walker's basket with a minute to play and took a 35-19 lead at intermission. The Lady Blues forced 15 turnovers in the half, while Truman State shot 7 of 24 from the field.

Bethany McGraw opened with five straight points for Washburn and Jennifer Butcher added a 3-point play to give Washburn its biggest lead of the ballgame 43-23, as the Lady Blues cruised to victory.

Butcher led the way with 12 points and six rebounds, while McGraw added 11 points. Jennifer Perkins tallied 26 points for Truman State.

The Lady Blues are back in action 5:30 Wednesday night in Lee Arena against the No. 4 ranked Emporia State Hornets.
