Lady Blues snap losing slide; top UMR 65-61

The Washburn Lady Blues got back on the winning track with a 65-61 victory over Missouri-Rolla Saturday night in Lee Arena.

Washburn got off to a quick start, behind senior Jennifer Butcher who scored 18 points. Butcher made all six shots from the field and was 5 of 5 from the foul line and became the 15th player in team history to record 1000 points, when she hit a layup with 37 seconds to play.

The Lady Blues surged to a 17-9 margin early in the game and, before the Lady Miners pulled within 23-19 late in the first half. Washburn rallied for a 13-3 run to finish with a 36-22 lead at the half.

Missouri-Rolla made a late surge of their own and drew within 55-52 before Washburn canned 5 of 6 free throws late to seal the victory.

The Lady Blues (9-8, 3-6 MIAA) will host Missouri Southern 5:30 in Lee Arena Saturday night.
