Lady Blues fall in final non-conference game to UMSL 59-51

The Washburn Lady Blues fell 59-51 in their final non-league game against the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday night in Lee Arena.

The Lady Blues committed committed 19 turnovers and shot only 10 of 26 from the field but held held a 23-19 lead at the end of the first half, behind Kristy Chapman's nine points.
UMSL, which shot only 31 percent in the first half took their first lead since midway through the first half and never looked back when Tanisha Albert canned a 3-pointer with 16:20 to go.

Washburn closed within four at 55-51 with 32 seconds to play before the Riverwomen iced the ballgame with late free throws.

Chapman led the way with 14 points for Washburn, while Jennifer Butcher grabbed 14 rebounds. Lynette Wellen scored 18 points for UMSL.

Washburn is back in action 5:30 Wedneday night in Joplin, Mo. when they take on Missouri Southern in their MIAA opener.
